This class has personally helped me in my writing. Two
pieces of texts that has helped me is Tocqueville, and the fiction packets.
Both texts helped me be more poetic than more of a standard writer. More
emotion is involved in my writing, and I can be more descriptive than I was
when I first started taking creative writing this semester. Both of them has
majorly impacted my writing.
Tocqueville has helped me a lot with my writing
emotionally. For example, I the book, it
talks about how his best friend got arrested for uploading child pornography which
made me become more realistic in my writing to grasp the reader’s attention. Another
way Tocqueville has helped me with my writing is helping me be more emotional
and make readers feel the emotion through the text. In the book, he talks about
how he had to kill his child, because they forced him to bludgeon his baby or
they will kill him but still ended up cutting off his arm toward the end of the
book. So much emotion was shown in those sentences and can make the readers
sympathetic, but make readers keep reading.
The next piece of text that affected me this semester is
the fiction packets. For example, in Oates Girl with Blackened Eye it talks
about a girl who goes through physical and mental conflict. I automatically felt
the emotion personally because I am a female. For example, he hurts her
mentally by calling her a nasty girl, selfish, and hurts her like every one of
her privilege. This showed a lot of emotion and how someone can really hurt you
and mess you up mentally. It personally affected me because it makes you want
to write about something as deep as such because you want the audience to be
influence and affect the reader I some type of way and this specific piece of text
has done to me.
Overall, Tocqueville and Oates Girl with Blackened Eye is
two piece of texts that has affected me personally and my writing. They both
inspired me to out more emotion in my writing, and made me realize that writing
is way more than just words. They both are full of emotion and are both good
texts that can grasp a reader’s attention.
